Speakeasy, Die Softly Celebrates One Year at Carmine’s Times Square, Cementing Its Role as NYC’s Only Ongoing Immersive Experience

August 07, 2025

New York, NY – August 16, 2025Speakeasy, Die Softly, the immersive murder mystery experience tucked inside Carmine’s iconic Times Square location, is raising a glass to its one-year anniversary on August 16, 2025. Produced by American Immersion Theater, the off-off-Broadway show has hosted over 7,000 guests and now holds the distinction of being Times Square’s only continuously running immersive theatrical experience.

From the Director

“A lot has happened in the show since our first performances in August of 2024,” says Micaela Dee, Director of Speakeasy, Die Softly, “We’ve added new bits based on the cast, hosted part of Thriller Fest, witnessed three proposals, ran a panel at Broadway Con, and won an award for Best New Immersive Show! Being part of an off-off Broadway production has been a dream come true for me and the cast. We’re so excited to keep playing!”

How it started

The Murder Mystery Co. was featured on ABC’s Shark Tank in March of 2024 which caught the eye of Carmine’s owner, Jeffery Bank, who first suggested a show in a newly renovated space in Times Square. Speakeasy, Die Softly became a highly interactive murder mystery dinner theater show hidden away in a secret speakeasy in Carmine’s. During the show, attendees enjoy a legendary three-course, family-style feast while they partake in the mystery as suspects and detectives. One of the most unique features of the show is the live, original music, interactive props, and how the actors empower participation from the audience. Speakeasy, Die Softly is a comedic show set at a 1920s speakeasy at “Lou Zar’s Totally Legitimate Italian Restaurant” centering around mob crimes and murder.

How it’s going

“American Immersion Theater’s goal is to empower people to participate,” says Scott Cramton, founder of American Immersion Theater and Speakeasy, Die Softly writer, “It’s been an honor and a dream come true to have an off-off Broadway show come to life.” Due to the show’s success, Cramton is now working on two new immersive productions set to debut at Carmine’s in September: Spirits, a haunting tale of a 1920s songstress who makes a dark deal for fame, and The Grandest Princess Ball Ever, a family-friendly event featuring live performances, games, and small bites. Auditions are underway, with tickets expected to go on sale soon.
