The Best Mystery Games to Play Right Now

December 13, 2025

It seems like just about everyone is looking for the next best murder mystery game to play at their next birthday party or get-together. We’ve all been to events that lack pizzazz, but one of the easiest ways to spice up your next hangout session is to throw a game or two into the mix. Below are several ways (from most to least difficult) you can make your next party a killer one.

Create your own game using an online guide

Creating your own murder mystery is certainly the most challenging option for hosting a murder mystery party, but the payoff can be huge because you can make it as personalized as you like. We only recommend this option if you are a writer and crafty, as you will need to not only write the storyline, but also the character descriptions, create clues to discover, and find a way to keep a straight face during the game, so you don’t leak any secrets.

There are plenty of game guides online, but we’ve actually created one just for the sleuths who really want to make a personalized experience on a budget. We’ll be honest: it’s a big time investment, but the memories you create will last forever.

Try Out Playing a Role Playing Game

Listen, we’ve passed the days when RPGs were only for super nerds. Everyone deserves to have fun pretending to be someone else, and there are plenty of murder mystery box kits, downloadable interactive games, and companies like ours that can help guide you through an immersive gaming experience. Here are some of our favorites:

  • Mausritter – Adventure as a group of sword-fighting mice on a mission in a dangerous world! This game has action and a cuteness factor we just can’t pass up.
  • Jubensha – You might not have heard about this one… unless you live in China. Jubensha is great for readers, actors, and people who have a little fun with white lies. It’s a murder mystery with a bit of Dungeons and Dragons energy behind it. We strongly recommend Jubensha over any other box kit out there.
  • Secret Hitler – If you’re a fan of Smosh, you might be familiar with Secret Hitler. Basically, in this 1930s mystery game, players attempt to either figure out who Hitler is or try to put him into power. It’s great for a history buff looking for some intrigue.
  • Werewolf – Same as before, if you love Smosh, you probably know about this game. This is similar to Secret Hitler, but you are looking for the Werewolf. Think Vampire: The Masquerade meets Clue.
